Woo hoo

Just got an e-mail from the big boss saying the offices are closing at 2 p.m. and we can go home. Yes, it's only three hours and Fridays are generally slow, but it feels nice to get to leave work early.

That's a good thing for my son because Dan'l is writing a novel. My brother-in-law called R to ask him for advice because he finished writing a book (R worked as a book editor). So I think Dan'l thought it would be a great idea to write a book.

He started writing a couple of days ago, but I think he spent more time looking for fancy typefaces for the title and figuring out how to do a drop cap. Anyway, he's on chapter one and I'm glad to say that my son knows how to write a complete sentences--complex and simple. Also, I'm glad that he's getting this dream out of his system now, rather than as an adult. It's cute when a kid decides to write out of the blue, but not when an adult does it. Yes, I know Twain's best work was done when he was past middle age, but not everybody's Twain.

Dan'l asked me if any other kids had ever published a book or gotten on the best-sellers list. I told him about some kid in Central Texas who wrote poetry, but I think he's mentally retarded or had some sort of problem and I could see Dan'l considering faking or coming up with something to help publicize his book.

I've created a monster.

I remember that kid who wrote the book of Jesus poems. I think he was autistic. Or in a coma or something. His mom actually wrote it.

But I applaud his book writing dreams. I think it should be mystery set on a Navy ship.

If only he could get great advice from someone who used to be in the Navy and was really smart and didn't have a college degree. If only.

Plus he could sprinkle it with poetry that rhymes: aa/bb/cc/dd, etc.
