What did you do this weekend?

Normally, if a friend asks that question, I won't think twice about it. Jensational is polite and asks about my weekends or I'll tell her what happened in an e-mail. Kimmie asked me yesterday, not about my weekend, but what was I going to do on my day off.

This was a memorable weekend. I taught Dan'l how to crochet. I learned when I was a little bit younger than he is now, except I didn't learn much. I know how to make a chain and a slip stitch, but that's it. Nothing else. So I had to scramble yesterday and read and practice. I know I usually brag about my son being bright and smart, but he picked it up really quickly. He even looked up how to cast on and was busy crocheting Sunday morning (while I was sleeping).

It was a sappy moment. I felt really proud of him. Not so much for picking it up, but for actually doing it. He could have rolled his eyes at me, but he didn't. Kimmie says I'm trying to make him gay, but he asked me to show him and I obliged.

Unlike this morning when my nosy co-worker asked me what I did this morning. For some reason, (I think it has to do with my purging this weekend) I wasn't in the mood for small talk and asked her, "Do you really care or is this just small talk?" She said, "Forget it," in a huff and is acting like I cut her. Whatever. I just don't want to hear her go on and on about me gaying up my son. Just not in the mood today. Believe me, I'd love to brag about my son, but, sigh, I'm not up to it.

Oh you're not turning your son gay. It's not like you shower together or make him wear dresses while you call him Elizabeth or something.

My mom has a 1980s game called "Fashion Plates" that she keeps in her classroom. It was mine when I was little. She says every year the boys become obsessed with it. They love putting together the outfits and coloring them. And I'd venture to say that only two out of every class are gay. So there you go. I think boys like being crafty and creative as much as girls do.
